IW Supports House Bill 2907 Which Aims to Reform State Law When It Comes to Police Use of Deadly Force

House Bill 2907, sponsored by Rep. Luis Moscoso, aims to reform state law when it comes to police use of deadly force. The Black Alliance of Thurston County is supporting this bill in response to the police shooting in Olympia in May of two young black men.

Interfaith Works Board of Directors has voted to support this bill, which would clarify the conditions under which police could use deadly force and removes from current law the vague criteria that “….a public officer or peace officer shall not be held criminally liable for using deadly force without malice and with a good faith belief that such act is justifiable.”

There will be a public hearing on HB 2907 on Feb 3rd at 1:30 in the House Public Safety Committee, Hearing Room D, John L. O’Brien House Office Building, across from the Legislative Building on the Capitol Campus – 504 15th Avenue Southeast, Olympia, WA 98501

Interfaith Works encourages support of this bill at the hearing next Wednesday.
